Booking a Mandap: Lead Times, Deposits and Changes

6 minute read · Updated 15 October 2026

Once you've chosen a design, the practical questions begin: when to book, how much to pay up front and what happens if plans change. Knowing the typical answers helps you ask the right questions.

How far in advance should you book?

For peak months, roughly May to September, and popular Saturdays, booking nine to twelve months ahead is sensible. Off-peak dates are more flexible, and last-minute bookings can sometimes be accommodated. If your date is close, ask anyway and availability can be checked quickly.

What deposit is required?

Deposits vary by supplier. Commonly, a portion of the total is paid to secure your date, with the balance due closer to the wedding. Your quote should state the deposit, the balance date and the cancellation terms. Ask about anything unclear before you pay.

Questions to ask about payment

  • How much is the deposit and when is the balance due?
  • Is the deposit refundable, transferable or non-refundable?
  • What happens if I cancel?
  • How will I pay and will I receive a receipt?

Can you change your design after booking?

Often, within reason, particularly when there's plenty of time before the wedding and the new design is available. A different design or extra items may alter the price. Ask about the change policy up front.

What if your wedding date changes?

Policies differ. Many suppliers will move your booking to a new date if it's available, sometimes with notice requirements or a fee. If the new date is already booked, other terms may apply. Check the date-change terms in your quote and tell your supplier as soon as plans shift.

A booking checklist

  1. Confirm your date, venue and access times.
  2. Get an itemised quote that lists every extra.
  3. Read the deposit, balance and cancellation terms.
  4. Ask about design changes and date changes.
  5. Get the booking confirmation in writing.
