How Long Does Mandap Setup and Dismantling Take?

6 minute read · Updated 15 October 2026

Timings are one of the least glamorous parts of wedding planning and one of the most important. A mandap that arrives late, or can't be installed before guests arrive, causes stress no one needs. Here's how to plan it properly.

How long does installation take?

It depends on the design. As a general guide, simple frames with light styling can be installed in around one to two hours, while larger installations with a stage, carpets, aisle decor and heavy florals typically take several hours. Your supplier will give a time for your specific design and venue.

What makes setup slower

  • Larger or multi-part structures
  • Heavy floral decoration, particularly fresh work
  • Long carry distances, stairs or no lift access
  • Restricted load-in windows or shared venue spaces
  • Adding a stage, carpets and aisle styling

How long does dismantling take?

Usually less time than installation, often one to three hours, depending on scale and how quickly the venue needs the space back. If your ceremony is followed by a reception in the same room, discuss timing so the mandap is cleared safely without disrupting guests.

Can a mandap be installed the night before?

Often, if your venue allows it. Many couples prefer this because it reduces pressure on the morning and leaves time for finishing touches. The catch is venue policy: some venues host other events the evening before or only allow same-day access. Ask your venue first, then tell us so the installation can be planned.

Who coordinates with the venue?

Your supplier will usually liaise with the venue about access, parking, load-in routes and rules. It helps enormously if you can pass on the name of the venue's events contact. You should still confirm your own timings with the venue so everyone is working to the same plan.

A simple timing checklist

  1. Ask the venue what time access begins and when the room must be clear.
  2. Ask whether overnight setup is allowed.
  3. Confirm parking, load-in route, lifts and any weight or fire-safety limits.
  4. Share these details in your enquiry.
  5. Reconfirm timings a week before the wedding.
