The Biggest Mandap Booking Mistakes to Avoid

Updated 24 October 2026

The most expensive mandap mistakes are rarely about design. They are about paperwork, access and assumptions. The biggest is paying a deposit before the exact specification is confirmed in writing. These are the mistakes worth avoiding.

  1. Paying a deposit without a written specification. Get the design, date, venue, inclusions, balance date and change terms in writing first.
  2. Comparing quotes that are not like for like. One quote may include the stage, delivery and removal, and another may not. See how to compare mandap quotes.
  3. Not checking venue access. Ask how early the team can get in and how long setup takes. A tight window can mean extra crew or an overnight setup.
  4. Assuming the stage is included. At lower prices it often is not. Ask separately about stage, carpets, aisle decor and arch.
  5. Spending on fresh flowers everywhere. Ask which parts are fresh. Use them where they show most. See fresh vs artificial flowers.
  6. Forgetting a rain plan for outdoor weddings. Have a marquee or covered backup. Read what can go wrong.
  7. Judging by one close-up photo. Ask for a wide photograph of the full setup, and check how it will look in your room.
  8. Leaving it too late. Book as soon as your date and venue are set.
  9. Forgetting furniture. Bajots, patlas, chairs and other items may be included or extra. Ask for the list.
  10. Not asking about removal. Confirm who removes the mandap, when, and whether it is in the price.

Booking the mandap and the decor with the same company can reduce cost and risk, because one team handles timings. Read our booking guide for lead times and deposits, and send one enquiry for your shortlist.

Quick answers

What is the biggest mandap booking mistake?

Paying a deposit before the exact design, inclusions, date, venue and terms are written down. Without that, there is nothing to hold the supplier to.

When should I book my mandap?

As early as you can once your date and venue are confirmed. Popular dates and designs go first, but late bookings can sometimes still be arranged.

Should I book a mandap company or a full decorator?

It depends. A mandap company is simpler and often cheaper for the structure. A full decorator can manage the whole room. Booking both with one company can be more cost efficient.
